Though they may be impressive, quotations do not have much shock-value and could be forgotten quickly. So they should be augmented by other methods of gaining audience attention. Remember also that use quotations sparingly. If you use too many quotations, people start to think that you have nothing original to say as you're always borrowing other people's sayings.

5. Narrate a joke.

Jokes are wonderful for relaxing the audience and setting a cheerful mood. Relaxed audiences tend to be more interactive. This might make the presenters work somewhat easier.

The joke must be appropriate. People have very different senses of humor and you have to be very careful with jokes. What might produce rolls of laughter from one audience might cause stunned silence in another.

Experiment with the joke first with people you know to check how it works and if poor language skills hinder understanding of the joke. It is very embarrassing if you are the only one who gets the joke and no one can laugh for the right reason. Some jokes to avoid are sexual, religious, ethnic and political issues as people are very sensitive in these areas.

One thing to be careful about is the cultural relativity of humor. In many cultures the locals crack jokes about many things and everybody rolls in laughter, but the moment a person from another culture or overseas head office makes the same joke, it can cease to be a joke and become a cultural affront.

6. Go among the audience.

Presenters usually keep to the area in front, near the laptop or the transparency projector. This creates a comfort zone for many people in the audience. Some courageous presenters disturb this comfort zone of the audience by walking closer or going absolutely to one side. Then the primitive instincts of the people in their comfort zone start waking them up. "The presenter is so close and next he'll even ask me something, so I better be alert".

Attention-grabbing skills are important for establishing relevance to your audience. Most of the people in the audience are often not mentally present or with you when you begin to speak. Even if they are physically present there and are trying to look interested, in reality, they are in their own worlds. They are thinking about work matters, planning the rest of their day, thinking about a problem of their own or just daydreaming. You have to bring them into your world and get them interested in your subject.

Attention-grabbing skills are your tool for helping the audience tune in to your subject. These skills for grabbing audience attention is not about your ego, you're just helping them to tune in. When you have something worthwhile saying, and your audience feel that you're actually guiding them and helping them focus on your topic, they will appreciate this and reward you with eager attention and active participation. Then at the end you will feel elated as they clap to show their appreciation.

The best place to keep a presentation is a prison; they already have a captive audience.

They're short and not generally substantive. That's why welcoming speeches don't tend to get the respect they deserve in the realm of speech making. Seen as what they are though: an important first chance to make a good public impression, and it becomes clear why this deceptively simple task should never be overlooked.

Welcome speeches by definition should be more about the audience than the host. The aim is put invited guests at ease, get the proceedings off to a good start, and to set expectations for what is to come. As important as these goals are, welcome speeches are also opportunities to give the right impression--of the hosts and the individual speaker specifically.

Rush through these opening remarks, and you risk leaving the impression the event isn't taken all that seriously, or isn't well organized. Spend too long at the welcoming remarks, and your audience may have cause for concern about whether their time is going to be well spent.

Here are some tips and techniques executives can use for an effective welcome:

1.) Be a good host.

As you compose your remarks, picture yourself hosting a group at your own home. Strive to strike the same tone of good-natured familiarity and ease. By all means, single out special guests, but be sure to include remarks that include everyone as well. Don't make the list of individual recognition too long or detailed, or you may risk offending those not singled out for recognition.

2.) Keep it short.

Welcome speeches are opening remarks that set a tone, not substantive speeches of any duration. Keep them just long enough to welcome attendees, recognize a few special guests, share your goals for the event and thank everyone for participating. Don't get into any substantive details of the proceedings.

3.) Do introduce yourself.

Even if you are reasonably certain most in the room know your name and position, do take a moment to give yourself an introduction. This is your opportunity to personalize your welcome and to show your sincere pleasure your guests are there.

4.) Practice good delivery techniques.

Do make sure the audience will be able to hear you from any vantage point. Maintain eye contact as much as possible with your guests during these brief remarks. If possible, practice your remarks at the site of the actual event so that you know where you'll be standing, whether you'll be wearing a microphone, and how you'll sound. Avoid reading your remarks if possible, so you can be sure and sound genuinely welcoming and prepared.

5.) Use humor wisely.

It's hard to recover from a joke that isn't received well, so if you're not comfortable using humor generally in public forums, this isn't a good place to start. Never open with a joke at someone else's expense. It's a good idea to vet your remarks with someone else before taking the stage.

Welcome remarks are an excellent opportunity to showcase your confidence and your goodwill toward your guests. Do spend time preparing as you would any other public speech and make sure that first impression is a powerfully effective one.

Business sense will keep you in business and protect you from getting ripped off. It requires you to know the true cost of your supplies, so that you do not pay more than you have to. This is about you knowing where shop, what licenses you need so that you are legal and how to do things the right way. Common sense- you may be in situations where you are the youngest person in the room and may feel intimated, do not let your fear or intimidation stop you. If your common sense is telling you something is not right, it probably is not right and you need to trust what you know and make a decision to wait before making a move.

Business education no longer requires costly, lengthy college courses. Many entrepreneurs who have been successful in their fields are writing books on how to start similar businesses. They are great sources of information. Why so many businesses fighting for the attention and patronage of your customer? Take the time to investigate your potential and current customers. If they are not buying your product or making a sale is extremely difficult you wan to re-evaluate and go back to the drawing board and investigate some more. This will help you determine if your target is off or your strategy of reaching them is off. If you want to sell to the affluent your style, appearance, use of language will be much different from selling to middle class families. You must in these cases be able to relate to them and meet their concerns. Can a person on a shoestring budget reach the affluent and wealthy? Yes, if they are capable of finding a common ground in which they can use to build a relationship from and are able to meet the unique needs of that segment of the market. You can sell the same medicine to the wealthy and middle class, but your packaging and presentation will be entirely different.

Some businesses think that once they have their customers, the work is done. Not so, this is just the beginning. You will find that some other entrepreneur is coming up right behind and is hungrier than you are, and ready to offer more for less. Your customers are never safe, which means you want to build and keep the relationships current and purposeful. This may mean sending your customers updates about how your company is doing, new product or service offerings. If there is nothing new going on in your business (which should not be) then you can send birthday cards and other items to let the customer know that you are thinking of them. Profitable businesses specialize in personalization.

3) Have a constant stream or method for recruiting new customers

Have you ever seen a brook or river run dry? It is a sad sight, no longer is that brook good for giving water, oxygen or even a pleasing sight to on lookers. It becomes a hole in the ground collecting dirt and debris. Your business should never face the same fate, to avoid this you must keep the source full. Your source is the how you get new customers. As entrepreneurs we are so busy maintaining the business and running straight ahead that we do not focus the priorities. Never take your eyes off where your customers are coming from. Nurture and maintain your source for recruiting new customers. For example if your source is the relationships with vendors, stores, or magazines then maintain those relationships buy paying on time, responding to emergencies and meeting needs. If your source is referrals, then reward those who are referring customers to you.

4) Manage your income streams so that they do not run out

Profitable businesses make sure that what they are putting out financially is being replenished by what is being brought in. Keep the rule of earning at least five dollars before you spend one. Two dollars are for paying expenses, one for replenishing supplies, one for advertising and the other for maintaining the payroll or the entrepreneur. There are so many needs for a small business and new business, from supplies to inventory. The needs seem to outweigh the provisions at times, yet we still need to be able to operate and function without breaking the bank. This is when you want to create your wish list, and your shopping list. As an entrepreneur we can live in the office supply stores and be roped in by vendors into buying equipment that takes classes and several months to master. To get overhead low you must manage you income streams making a budget for all your expense and needs. This can be achieved by dividing the money coming into your business to make it pay for the preset priorities. Determine your bills, expenses and business equipment or operations needs. Give a date to purchase each items by and do not buy anything until you have collected the necessary money for it. If you are going to lease equipment have a stream of income that will support this new expense so that your payments are on time and your credit is being built up. To often home businesses and store fronts are both guilt of spending what they have not made and drying up the income streams. Anything not being replenished at the same rate it is being used is in danger of drying up quickly.

5) Charge what the service is worth

It is important to the profitability of your business that you charge what your service or product is worth. Then it will take a shorter time to see profits. If you undercharge then making a profit takes a lot longer and much more effort. Price right the first time so that you are meeting your expenses and have money for savings or reinvesting. Charging the right price will set your business in motion and head on the right path.

Funky Wedding Favors Did it For Me!

Last month, we attended the wedding of a good friend. Everything about the day was completely individual from the bride's dress to the personalized candy wrappers.

It was these funky wedding favors that did it for me - what a fantastic idea! It seems that lately, all of the weddings we have been to blend in to each other with no particular distinguishing features separating them from one another.

Of course, every wedding is special but it just goes to prove that the little details make a big difference to a guest's opinion.

The day started with a simple registry office service after which we blew champagne bubbles over the happy couple. The groom [who is a firm believer in all things 'green'] had suggested the bubbles as an alternative to confetti. He explained what a nightmare confetti was to clear up and how much of it these days is not biodegradable. They really are quite an eccentric couple with some interesting ideas, though I agree that the bubbles were far less messy than confetti and - in actual fact - far more romantic!

The bride's dress was absolutely incredible - the detail was really quite extraordinary. As for the bridesmaids, their dresses were 50's prom-style in warm pink with orange sashes. Believe it or not, the colors worked brilliantly, despite how awful they sound.

They were [so I later discovered] to match the personalized candy wedding favors awaiting us at the reception venue.

The reception venue was completely kitted out in orange and pink. It was like Cinderella meets Bollywood! Organza drapes hung from the windows and the tables were scattered with orange and pink rose petals. The floral centrepieces consisted of tiger lilies, gerberas and roses with oodles of draped ivory.

The place settings were finished off with funky wedding favors in the form of personalized candy bars. At each place was a perfectly placed chocolate bar all encased in gold foil and finished with a personalized candy wrapper. Each candy wrapper was [naturally] orange and pink in color and had 'Katie and Simon' printed on the front. They really were the king of funky favors!

Personally, I wasn't sure about the color theme before seeing it. However, once I saw it all together I couldn't believe how great it all looked. They must have worked so hard to match all of the colors up together, I mean, I didn't even know that you could buy personalized candy that actually co-ordinated with the rest of your wedding! It looked awesome!

As the evening progressed, everyone made polite chit chat. However, the one thing that everyone kept talking about was the personalized candy wrappers. What a fantastic idea and [more importantly] what delicious chocolate!

Wedding Photography - Poses and Must Take Shots

The following are events that should be recorded by the photographer during a typical wedding day. There will be some things that are not listed here because no two events are exactly alike. If there are important events happening at the event you are shooting that are not listed here, you need to take those pictures as well.

Take these shots of the Bride at home or the bridal party meeting place:

Applying makeup or fixing hair

Putting on garter with a couple of other ladies around

Fully dressed with mother or parents

Fully dressed alone holding flowers..full length

With Bridesmaids (if space and time allow)

Leaving for the church

Entering or near limo or car, ready to head to church (with maid of honor if possible)

At the church:

Arriving at the church (Bride)

Groom:

Waiting at the church. (usually in a back room or office.)

Posed shot with groomsmen

With the best man

Ceremony:

Each member of wedding party coming down aisle. (If you miss someone because they are moving too fast, just focus on the next one).

Bride-to-be coming down the aisle. Under no circumstances should you miss this shot. Take 3 or 4 in case eyes are closed in one.

Whole wedding party at altar (if possible)

Bride and Groom

At or around altar during ceremony. Take various shots from different angles. In front of them and behind them.

Newlyweds together: Take a lot of shots of these poses. They are money shots and will increase your sales if done properly.

The New Mr. and Mrs. with certain family members. Try to keep this to parents, grandparents, or immediate family members. Let the couple know that taking pictures with every relative or friend at this point would be time consuming and slow down the days proceedings. You can get shots of other family members and friends during the reception.

Bride alone: Take several different images. These are money shots.

Groom alone: Once again, take numerous shots

At the Reception:

Wedding party members entering the reception hall.

Bride and Groom entering the reception. Take several shots.

Toasts. Take pictures of person doing toast with the newly married couple in the shot if possible.

First Dance: Take several shots from different angles.

Cutting the cake: Take a picture of the cake before it is cut. Then pose cutting the cake. (be ready for shots like them feeding each other or smearing cake on each others faces)

Take pictures of the newlyweds with guests and friends at the reception hall. Some can be candid and some can be posed. Check with the bride and groom. They will let you know who they want pictures with or who they want pictures of. These shots can be taken during lulls in activity.

Throwing the bouquet:: Try to angle yourself so you catch the end of her throw and the women reaching out to grab the bouquet..

Couple waving goodbye: This can be taken inside or outside. If you are leaving before they do, just pose the shot and take it. No on will know the difference when the pictures come back.

This is by no means an all inclusive list. You should photograph as much as possible that will give an accurate record of the days events. Just be alert and keep shooting. Good Luck!

Stationery used at home or in schools differs from that used in offices. Office stationery is primarily meant for communication, and keeping record of various financial and statistical data. This is unlike the stationery in schools, which is used to take down study notes, practice mathematical problems, painting and sketching.

Computers now offer new methods to keep office records, especially financial records. In addition, computers and the Internet collectively offer a way to communicate through electronic mails as well. But such methods are susceptible to virus attacks, hacking, or damage due to heat, or dust. Moreover, it is also easier to steal important information from a computer. This is the reason traditional methods of using paper, and pens in offices continue, though on a much lower scale. Only traditional typewriters have been completely replaced by printers and keyboards in offices.

Because information in offices is recorded and communicated on paper, most of the office stationery items revolve around paper. There are many office stationery items. The most common ones other than paper are pens, paperweights, paper trays, staplers, staples, paper clamps, hardwood pads, note pads, sticky notes, highlighters, letter openers, files, folders, pencils, crayons, sketch pens, pencil sharpeners, ruler scales, pen refills, erasers, glue and scissors.

In addition to the above, offices of professionals such as architects require specific stationery, such as special type of drawing papers, architects scales, and pens for drafting. These become office stationery items for such offices.

Based on this, it may be concluded that paper is the most essential office stationery. It is also used to take photocopies of documents, and copies of correspondence that leaves the office premises. Paper covers are used to insert any such communication that needs to be sent out of the office, and such covers are also a type of office stationery.

Office cards, card holders, penholders, etc., are other office stationery items. Accounts related information is recorded on paper vouchers, which are then stapled along with relevant supporting documents and filed neatly in some files. While preparing electronic vouchers is feasible, as yet it is difficult to obtain business specific information from every vendor in electronic format. This is because different vendors may be using different accounting programs. Some may not have computerized their accounts. Because of such problems, a manual system of recording financial transactions on paper vouchers continues.

This does not mean that CDs used to record information are not office stationary. All counting or other information generated in offices should be retrievable. In addition, this information should be portable. It may have to be furnished to any tax authorities, or banks. Alternately, it may have to be furnished to auditors for verification and their report. At times staff may have to be given important information or training. Special type of pens are used on conference room boards during such training. Such items also qualify as office stationery, even though they are not used along with paper.

Lessons from the Wedding Mafia

One of my clients shared a story with me from his networking group, a chapter of BNI. Ivan Misner, the creator of BNI talks about what he calls "contact spheres".

Here's how it works: A group of related business owners work together to get referrals for each other. Here are some of Misner's examples of contact spheres:

*Business services: printers, graphic artists, specialty advertising agents and marketing consultants.

*Real estate services: residential and commercial agents, escrow companies, title companies and mortgage brokers.

*Contractors: painters, carpenters, plumbers, landscapers, electricians and interior designers.

*Healthcare: chiropractors, physical therapists, acupuncturists and nutritionists.

*Weddings: the caterer, the florist, the photographer and the travel agent.

The story my client told me was about the last group which has been dubbed "The Wedding Mafia". When one gets new wedding business, the whole group gets new wedding business. It makes it very difficult for anyone else to get referrals. It's a tremendous business builder. I have a client in real estate who does this very well also. It's one of the most powerful business building tools ever.

So, my client and I were joking around about me developing a "Small Business Mafia"--a small business consultant, an insurance agent, a financial planner, a printing company, an office supply company, a tax preparer, etc. The more we joked about it, the more powerful an idea I realized it was. And since I do business both locally and nationally, I could form numerous branches of my Small Business Mafia and then (insert evil laughter) I could CONQUER THE WORLD!!!

Whooooaaaaa! Hold on. The key to success of any referral group like this is finding good people. The business owners you work with have to be people you feel completely comfortable in referring your valued clients to. Otherwise, your name and reputation will get dragged into the ditch. Once you've found people you love to refer, be sure they're very familiar with your business and the types of clients you're looking for. Give the group as much or as little structure as needed to ensure that referrals are flowing both ways. Then, go out and conquer as much of the world as you want.

Q. I am invited to a wedding. The invitation arrived and with it a wish list and store registries where the bride and groom entered the items they want to receive.

S. I do not plan to attend. Do I need to send a gift?
A. You do not have to, but it is a nice gesture to send a gift whether or not you plan to attend.

Q. Do I have to give an item chosen by the bride and groom?
A. No! While it is nice to help the couple acquire items they have chosen, a unique gift can be just as and even more welcomed.

Q. Do I have to purchase from one of their bridal registries?
A. No. You may shop anywhere, though the bridal registries will inform you of which items have already been purchased.

Q. Can I purchase a gift for the wedding itself rather than for the future?
A. Absolutely! Providing the bride and groom receive it in time for the wedding. In fact it is a good idea because just about any gift used at the wedding will become a cherished keepsake.

Q. What would make a memorable gift for the wedding?
Any item personalized with the bride and groom's first names and wedding date such as: Toasting Flutes, Cake Servers, Unity Candles, etc...
One, a few or even an entire collection of Wedding Accessories such as: Toasting Flutes, Cake Servers, Unity Candles, Guest Books and matching pens, Garters, Ring Bearer Pillow, hankies, caketops etc... But DO NOT make it a surprise gift. Consult with the bride and groom to assure that they do not have these items yet. If not, find out if they plan a theme wedding and purchase accordingly or better yet, let THEM CHOOSE the items.

A.Sure! Actually this is the easiest way to engage the bride and groom, near or far, should you need their input in choosing a gift for the wedding.
Shopping online is your most convenient way to acquire unique gifts which may not be available in stores.
Ideas: Personalized wedding gifts, personalized candles, etc... When you shop on line, a click of the mouse or a phone call from your home or office, allows you to purchase, gift wrap, enclose a personalized gift card and ship a gift to directly to the couple.

Q. Should I bring my gift to the wedding site?
A. Preferably not!
Most wedding sites do not provide security. Thus, Gifts can easily be damaged or misplaced or, sad to say taken. The bride and groom are much too busy and excited to worry about gathering up gifts. Thus, some gifts could easily be left behind.

Q. How do I make sure that the bride and groom receive my gift?
A. Send the gift to the Bride's address, grooms address or the address on the RSVP envelope that came with the wedding invitation.

BRIDES AND GROOMS ASK:

S. We plan to give each other gifts at the wedding. What is the best time to do so?
A. Gift exchange between brides and grooms has become rather popular. The best time for brides and grooms to exchange gifts is at the ceremony, as soon as they are no longer bride and groom. That is immediately following the officiant presenting the new Mr. and Mrs. but after lighting the Unity Candle.

Q. What kinds of gifts will be appropriate?
A. Give each other gifts that are keepsakes. Personalized gifts and jewelry top the list.

S. As a blending family, we plan to acknowledge our kids as part of our union. We would like to give them special gifts at the wedding.

Q. What is the best time to do so?
A. This is a wonderful way to welcome your kids into the new family creatid by your union.
The best time for you to give your kids a gift is at the ceremony immediately following your gift exchange, or immediately after your rings exchange and vows. This is especially appropriate if you plan to include the kids in your vows and, if age appropriate, in lighting the Unity Candle.

Q. What kinds of gifts will be appropriate?
Here a piece of jewelry such as the family unity jewelry (pendants, rings, lapel pins/tie clips etc...) will be a perfect gift.

Q. Are there specific etiquetes regarding giving gifts to our wedding party and family?
S. We need some ideas of gifts of appreciation to our bestman, maid of honor, bridesmaids, ushers, groomsmen, parents grand parents flower girl and ring bearer (boy).
A. Gifts, their cost and whether you should give everyone the same gift is at your discresion. But since you asked, we'll provide you with some ideas.

A. The most appropriate gifts will be keepsake mementos.
The mothers and the maid of Honor generally receive gift of greater value than the bridesmaids, but this is not mandatory.
Gifts personalized with either their names, title (mother, maid of honor etc...), or bride and groom's name and wedding date serve as both thank you and keepsake mementos.

A. Absolutely! Each guests gave you a gift personally. Most guests put thought into what to get and purchased, wrapped and delivered it to you on or before your wedding.
You must acknowledge their efforts individually with a Thank-You note.

S. We have a large wedding party. By the time we add both sets of parents, grandparents and a few other relatives, we come up with more than 10 men and more than 10 women. We are on a budget. Giving each a large gift is prohibitive but we do not want to give "cheapy" gifts.

Q. Can you help?
A. We hope so! You must consider your budget when choosing your gifts but you do not necessarily have to pass up gifts you like. Always remember that a little creativity and thoughtfulness can go a long way. If you are creative you can put together gifts from the heart. Write or draw someting special and place it in a frame. find small items that will be appreciated by a sports enthusiast, stamp collectors, a gardening buffs, etc... and make little gift baskets. Your thoughtfullness will be appreciated by the recipients.
Otherwise, choose two gifts - one for the men and one for women - and buy them in bulk. Many retailers will give you a price break based on quantity - IF YOU ASK THEM TO.
This will help keep your costs down and save you time too.
If you shop on-line Email a note to the online vendors asking if they can give you a break for buying X number of the same item. They may not offer it but some may consider doing so when requested. We at A-wedding Day do.
S. Be aware that because of the way internet shopping carts are set up, the discount will not show up on your online confirmation. The vendor will have to deduct the discount when charging your credit card and will need to email you the amount actually charged. It should reflect your cost after the price reduction.

Q. When is the best time to present our thank you gifts to our parents, grandparents and wedding attendants?
A. You may do so at the rehearsal dinner because of the intimate setting with your family and closest friends. Or, you may choose to present each in a private setting where you can express your gratitude to each participant individually.

This is a situation that should be handled very delicately, which is why it is a good idea for the bride and groom to sit down early in the planning process and decide how to handle it. It is especially important for the bride, because the decision will affect how much wedding talk is a good idea around the water cooler or lunch room. An excellent rule of thumb is that if you decide not to invite your co-workers to your wedding, then you should not subject them to hearing all about your epic struggle to find the perfect dress and wedding jewelry every day for a year.

So who should you consider inviting from the office? It will depend in part on the size of the business. To skip the mates is insulting, and it would make the invitation look blatantly obligatory, rather than graciously extended.

If you simply cannot or do not want to invite the whole gang from the office, the best way to handle it is by making frequent remarks about the small size of your wedding, or how you can only afford to invite your family and closest friends. Not only will your co-workers take the hint, but they might actually be relieved! After all, it is a big deal to get all dressed up in a fancy dress and your best wedding jewelry, to buy a gift, and hire a babysitter. If you are not close friends, they might be happy to be let off the hook!

In the end, who you want to share in your wedding is a personal decision. Many brides and grooms feel that they want to be surrounded only by those that they love best. On the other hand, some couples believe the more the merrier. Whichever is your preference, if you handle the situation with grace and sensitivity, both you and your co-workers will be happier.

When planning a 50th Golden Wedding Anniversary there is so much to celebrate. My family and I celebrated our parents golden wedding anniversary this past June and would like to share our party planning tips. These tips will include choosing a location, choosing invitations, as well as tips on photographs at the special event.

Location

Planning a celebration of this importance has the feeling a bit like planning a wedding. And in a sense it is similar, when it comes to securing a location for the event, it is not uncommon to begin planning as much as 18 months prior to the anniversary. Research at this stage can include telephoning several local hotels with the following questions:

Is the facility/room available on the desired date and time?
Is there a charge or fee for use of the room?
What is the guest capacity of the room?
Does the hotel offer catering?

When you have narrowed your search to three possible locations, arrange to visit them to determine if the room and location feels right for your gathering. This is also a time to discuss flowers, table arrangements, staffing and gratuities with hotel management. When you feel you have secured the best location for the celebration, you may need to sign a contract outlining the date of your event and additional information discussed with the location sales manager.

Guest Invitations

Start with a guest list and decide if you would like to send Save-The-Date cards. These can be located online or at a paper, office supply, or greeting card store. There are many styles and themes available to suit your needs. If time or expense is a concern, consider emailing your guest list with the Save-The Date information.

Really the best advice for photographing the event is to start taking photographs early.

Take photos during your planning phase, during your preparations, and while setting up or preparing for the celebration. Begin taking photos as guests arrive, covering each guest and also with the anniversary couple. Remember to wait until all persons are aware that you would like to take a picture, so you have a great photo. Asking if someone would mind having their photo taken is a great way of prepping everyone to look at the camera and say cheese!

With most cameras today being digital you are only limited by the amount of available memory. If you do not like the photo, it can be deleted and another can be taken. Bring extra batteries too.

There is vital information that needs to gathered from and provided to wedding musicians for any wedding ceremony. Much of it should be in writing on the contract and many details (ceremony order, participants, and music selections) can be shared with the wedding musicians more informally. The contract with the wedding ceremony musicians or wedding music coordinator should contain the vital information including, type of music ensemble, date, location, time, cost, payments, cancellation policy and contact information.

General Information to Include on Wedding Music Contract

Employee: Name of wedding music coordinator, music ensemble leader, or musician.

Employee's Ensemble: Name of wedding ensemble, type of ensemble or instruments provided.

Number of Employees: Number of musicians in ensemble.

Date of the Event: It is important to make sure that the year is on the contract and every e-mail. This is a common mistake. Some brides plan years in advance and some weeks in advance. The year is an important detail, which if excluded, can lead to disastrous results.

Time of the Event: Include both the time of the wedding ceremony and length of the time the wedding musicians are contracted for. Allow time for the wedding to start late in the length of time that the musicians are contracted for.

Although they can often guarantee whatever kind of ensemble wanted, the best musicians on their staff get booked early.

Balance Payment: The amount of the balance due after the deposit, and when it is due. Most wedding musicians and wedding music coordinators request that balance payment take place right after the ceremony.

Payment Method: The kind of payments that are accepted and who should checks are payable to.

Meals: The number of meals provided for musicians. Remember, a fed band is a happy band and a happy band is happy and fun on stage. If musicians are only performing for the ceremony it is not customary to provide meals.

Overtime: The availability, cost and payment due date for overtime. Generally overtime would only apply to the wedding reception except in the case of an extremely late starting wedding.

Special Requests or Unusual Details: Special song requests, costume requests, unusual requests (e.g. the ensemble is to march into the church) can be listed on the contract.

Where To Find Your Cheap Wedding Venues

Cheap wedding venues are hard to find when you are desperately trying to secure a date and a perfect location. It's almost as if they are being kept secret, until now!

Recently I was involved in working with community and social clubs and I was amazed at the facilities they have for functions that are under utilised and the prices that they charge. It is almost as if they have been stuck in a time warp and have almost no idea the gold mine they are sitting on. Some clubs are run with no intention to make a profit, costs have to be covered for them to stay in business but their main aim is to be a social club for members. Check out all the social clubs, working men's clubs, sports clubs and community clubs in your area, use your yellow pages, ask your friends and families. Do not be put off by the fact that they are members clubs, most of the clubs will be crying out for new members. You will probably need to join the club to use the venue, but again you will be amazed at the prices that are charged, we are talking a few pounds not hundreds! I have visited beautiful clubs in old houses with stunning grounds and also some in a horrible state. The point is have a look, you could surprise yourself.

Local authority venues are worth looking at, you can get a list from your registery office. They are getting smart to weddings and functions so it is unlikely you will get a great bargain but you might find they are the cheapest venue in town and they often have great locations.

Community and church halls are normally pretty basic but they often have a kitchen and if you can get a team together you could easily decorate your venue the day before. I recently was emailed a great decoration idea where the bride and groom used big branches and cemented them into buckets, the whole thing was sprayed silver and then decorations hung to the branches. They had an avenue of trees in their hall!

If you live in an area where there are a summer camps, retreats, universities, colleges, or schools, (Let's face it I think we all live close to at least one of those!) find out if they hire the venue during holidays or off season. All the facilities will be there and you are likely to find great cheap wedding venues.

In the US it is possible to have your wedding ceremony and reception in a State Park, the prices that I have seen quoted for hiring cheap wedding venues in the park are very cheap. You would also have beautiful views, great places for children to play and lots of spare money!

If you are getting married quickly then it is worth checking prices and availibility of big venues in your area, they should give you a good deal as it is unlikely they will sell the space with a short lead in.

The best tip is to think outside the box, look at your town with new eyes and anywhere that has the space to hold the numbers that you want.

In the 1994 Miss India contest, she was controversially placed second behind Sushmita Sen, and went on to win the Miss World title that same year and the Miss Photogenic award. After a year of reign as Miss World in London, she then worked as a professional model, in advertising and Indian fashion magazines and later got into Aishwarya debuted in Mani Ratnam's Tamil language film, Iruvar (1997) with Mohanlal. She was introduced to Bollywood in the film, Aur Pyaar Ho Gaya; the film did not do well at the box office.

However, her third project, a Tamil-language film, Jeans (1998) by S. Shankar was a critical and commercial success for which she was awarded the Filmfare Best Actress Award South. Aishwarya then appeared in many Bollywood films; a few successful films of her career include Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam (1999) and Taal (1999) for which her performance was applauded. She was awarded the Film fare Best Actress Award for her role in the former. In 2000 she had a supporting role in the hit film Mohabbatein and also in another hit film Josh. In 2002, Rai appeared with superstars Shah Rukh Khan and Madhuri Dixit in the lavishly produced Devdas, which was a major box-office success and earned her the Filmfare Best Actress Award. The film attracted overseas attention as well, receiving a special screening at the Cannes Film Festival. It was during this time that she garnered the attention of the West as an Indian actress and went on to appear in a few Hollywood projects.

She was chosen by Time magazine in 2004 as one of the World's "100 Most Influential People" and in 2003, appeared on the cover of Time magazine. She was the subject of a 60 Minutes profile on January 2. A month later she appeared on the Late Show with David Letterman. She was also featured on Oprah's "Women across the Globe" segment. In 2003, she acted in the critically acclaimed and commercial success Bengali film, Chokher Bali, an adaptation of one of Rabindranath Tagore's novels by the same name. Rai has been a regular at the Cannes Film Festival since 2002, and was a member of the Jury at Cannes in the year 2003. In October 2004, a wax figure of Rai became on display in London's Madame Tussaud's wax museum.

The same month, her first foreign film was released: Bride and Prejudice. The film was an Indian version of Jane Austen's classic novel Pride and Prejudice. The film did well commercially in the U.K but not in India. Her next overseas venture, The Mistress of Spices, was critically acclaimed though not commercially successful. She then appeared at the closing ceremony of the 2006 Commonwealth Games in Melbourne, as part of a performance showcasing Indian culture, on behalf of the 2010 Commonwealth Games, to be held in New Delhi. In between her overseas acting stints, she appeared in the Indian film Bunty Aur Babli in a hugely popular seven minute dance sequence for the song "Kajra Re".

At the end of the year 2006, she had two releases: Umrao Jaan and Dhoom 2. Umrao Jaan did poorly in India; however, her role in Dhoom 2, a sequel to the 2004 hit movie Dhoom brought her great attention. It was a hit commercially too.2007 saw the release of Mani Ratnam's Guru which premiered in Toronto. The film, based on the life of Indian businessman Dhirubhai Ambani, was critically acclaimed and a big box office hit. Her most recent film, Provoked, based on the book "Circle of Light" where she portrays a real life character, was released on 6th of April, 2007 in India and the UK. The film did well commercially in the UK. It was critically acclaimed all over the world. At the end of April 2007 her first American film, The Last Legion, was released in Russia and the Netherlands. The film is expected to open in North American theaters in August 2007.

- To clean your diamonds only, make a solution of hot water and ammonia (half water and half ammonia) and soak your diamond in this solution for about 15 minutes. Lift it out and tap it gently from the sides and back and then brush it gently with a soft toothbrush. This technique is especially effective for a diamond rings with a heavy build up of oily dirt. It may take several "soaks" if the ring has not been cleaned in a long time. rinse and dry with a soft cloth or paper towel.

David and Janet came into my office both looking upset and disgruntled. They had become engaged a month ago and were already overwhelmed with the planning process. "Why do we even need to do this?" David asked irritably, "There's the venue to rent, the band to pick, the Church to choose, the food-- it just seems like a huge waste of money."

"Yeah and my dad is already complaining about the cost and the time-maybe we should just elope. Why is a marriage ceremony so important anyway?" sighed Janet tearfully.
"Well, let me see if I can help here." I responded.

Having been a marriage and relationship counselor for the past 30 years, I have learned much from my couples about what strengthens and weakens a marriage. The platform for a fulfilling marriage can be laid during the marriage ceremony itself. I have great respect for the power hidden in this ancient tradition. The wedding ceremony is the only surviving ritual that is almost universal, for thousands of years almost every human being in every country has taken part either as the couple being joined, a family member or a community member. Why are we all so compelled to continue this joining ritual? What is it that survives time, culture and changing mores?

Over time I have discovered that there is a hidden purposes in marriage ceremonies that may be the key to their enduring popularity and necessity. This hidden purpose has to do with changing family relationships. A wedding ceremony not only joins a couple together, it joins two families lineages and rearranges family alliances as well. We begin with two sets of parents, in this case David's and Janet's, who have birthed, raised and nurtured their respective son and daughter through out their lives. Up until the wedding day, on very deep levels that are only partially conscious, the allegiance and loyalty of David and Janet has been to Mother and Father and family first. The ancients in their wisdom knew that for a marriage to succeed, this had to change. And that momentous change begins on this special day- the marriage ceremony becomes the gateway to a rearrangement of family relationships.

When families consent to give their son and daughter in marriage they are agreeing to release them to pledge their love and loyalty to each other first and all others second. This is a powerful alchemy that happens and everyone has a part to play in it. So let us take a moment and imagine David and Janet's wedding. You have the family of David's, the groom on one side of the church and the family of Janet's, the bride on the other-- David and his attendants are at the front of the church with the officiate-- the bridesmaids enter followed by the Janet and her father-- her father steps back and the bride and groom are now in the center. The ceremony continues with offerings, vows, ring exchanges, and a formal pronouncement of joining. This very old and elaborate ritual helps families and friends formalize the change that is happening. It gives time for hearts to bid farewell to the individual son and daughter, sister and brother and prepare to welcome back a newly joined man and woman who are worthy of both families recognition, respect and acceptance. For the larger community, their job is to witness and hold sacred that from the wedding day forward, how David and Janet are viewed is forever changed.

"Wow, I never thought of it that way-but I think you're right, my mom really needs to see me as a man taking this step and this woman to help her let go of me as her special boy." said David thoughtfully.

"Yeah, actually both my parents and my older brother need this to begin to get that I've grown up. And you know I need it to get that I've grown up and to let go of them too." Janet was thoughtful for a moment. "If this works, I won't feel so guilty about wanting to spend our vacation time doing something alone instead of going to my family's cabin every year."

"Yes." I responded. "You will both need to practice thinking as a wife and husband first and a daughter and son second. This is a huge change for everyone and will take time, but a wedding ceremony can help."

6.Take it easy on the alcohol

Yes the company may be footing the bill, but the office Christmas party is not the time to build a reputation for being able to drink everyone under the table. Enjoy yourself but be sure that you can remember what you did the next day. And don't forget to organize a cab share - you definitely do not want to risk loosing your driving license through drinking and driving.

7.Show thanks

At the end of the evening, do make sure you take the time to seek out the people who organised the Christmas party. They no doubt had to organize the event alongside a busy work agenda and were probably nervous that everything would be alright on the night.
