Good Christmas Speeches Add to the Party Spirit

Christmas is party time and it's also time for those Christmas speeches. Most of us have at some time been bored silly by a C.E.O's rambling words at the firm's annual do. Such speakers often forget that their speeches should be suitable for a social occasion.

That means that they should be light-hearted in tone and also slightly sentimental as befits the season. Above all, as people are basically there to party, they should be short and snappy. That is not to say that they cannot be motivational in tone too. Naturally it is a time when a boss will want to motivate his or her staff but that won't be done by boring them silly with a set of statistics for example. Instead he or she should give them that feel good factor which will encourage them the following year. So speeches should make them feel appreciated for what they have contributed to the firm.

Naturally the speaker should welcome any guests that may be accompanying his or her staff. It is fitting to refer to tinsels and toys and the other such things we associate with Christmas. A touch of nostalgia for Christmases past should also be an integral part of the speech. Most of us have some family traditions for the season. We may all go to church on Christmas Eve or spend Christmas day with our grandparents. Depending on their country of birth staff may have special foods rather than the traditional goose or turkey and ham. So if you mention these things you will inspire your staff into thinking and talking about their own traditions.

Staff parties are not, of course, the only type of Christmas parties. Clubs and associations often have a yearly celebration too. Whether it's a sports club, a political association or a neighbours' night someone will usually give a speech. Whatever the occasion Christmas speeches should mention the glamour of those present as everyone obviously wears their party best. They should be welcoming and warm. They should reflect the atmosphere which is, of course, jolly and festive.

It doesn't matter if you are the Chair of the board or the Captain of the golf club your speech should reflect the conviviality of Christmas. It should, preferably, refer to the good will and peace on earth which are integral parts of Christmas. Your speeches should put into words the whole purpose of the party which is to celebrate with others the fun and friendship of the festive season. The speeches should, of course, end with a traditional seasonal greeting.
